Chapter 6: College Committees & Advisory Councils

06:07:00   Community Program Advisory

Purpose: Program advisory committees are established for each terminal degree and certificate program to assure that the goals and objectives of the curricula reflect input from a variety of sources and are consistent with the needs of the area served by Northeast State. Members are expected to make recommendations on new programs and/or courses needed, assist department personnel in determining objectives for individual courses and programs, make recommendations of equipment purchases, serve as goodwill ambassadors in the community for the individual program and the College, and perform other functions that are deemed appropriate.

Membership: Appointment to a program advisory committee will be by the academic dean upon recommendation of the faculty. The number of members on each committee will depend on the needs of the individual program and the area to be served. Typically, a committee will consist of a minimum of five to a maximum of fifteen members. The chair of each committee is elected by the membership or appointed by the academic dean. The faculty and staff members are primarily responsible for the coordination of meetings.

Program advisory committee members are selected on the basis of their technical knowledge and/or skill in a particular area and on their willingness to devote time to assist the College. In order to assure a committee with a diversified background, attention will be given to past experience of individuals under consideration for membership and to the geographical area where they reside.

The committee chair shall post a meeting summary on the campus bulletin board and post minutes/actions/plans on the Campus Drive, Committees Folder.
